Brazil, here we come!

Our trip is planned almost to the “T” …

“A good traveller has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving”

Lao Tzu

Why holiday in Brazil you may ask?

A number of reasons, not least to meet our daughter who has been travelling South America. Five months ago she left the UK for adventures in the far away land.

Travelling on her own, with a very light backpack, she had only an airline e-ticket to Columbia and a return e-ticket from Brazil to the UK. The only accommodation she booked from the UK was a hostel in Medellin, Columbia, where she first touched down on South American soil.

She had planned nothing more.

She had booked nothing else.

For the past five months she has been organising her travels as she goes.

Travelling wherever her heart (and possibly head) leads her.

She is accompanied only by her adventurous spirit!

My family learnt that our maternal grandfather, very many years ago in the 1800s, was a stowaway on a ship sailing from his hometown of Jamestown, on the remote Island of St Helena, to South Africa. Did my daughter’s free spirit hail from him? Did mine, and many of my siblings’ free spirit hail from him too?

Having said that, my Dad wandered away from his hometown of Cape Town, at the tender age of 21 to find his fortune – and found my Mum – in the then Southern Rhodesia.

Our daughter’s last stop is Brazil. She was due back home at the beginning of February 2017. She spent a much longer time in Columbia at the start of her travels, and decided to extend her stay for another few months.

It worked out perfectly for my husband and I. We’re able to join her on the last leg of her journey, when she makes her way to Brazil.

She is so looking forward to some comforts when we arrive. No backpacks for us, of course! We’re looking forward to to seeing her. To holidaying with her.

There’s another reason that we chose Brazil. Our good friend from our home country, has made Brazil his home for over 40 years. How wonderful it will be to meet with him and his delightful family. We have shared many chats and calls whilst organising our holiday, not only with him, but with other members of his family. Thank goodness for Whatsapp, Viber and Messenger!

To you our friends, thanks for your tips on places to see, places to stay, things to do.

Unlike our daughter, our trip is planned … almost “to the T” !

Travelling to places near or far. This blog will trace our journeys, or travels. Will report the good and the not so good. Sharing photos and experiences that may be useful to you at some time in the future. Just saying … the posts may be written after the event! Brazil, here we come! I would love you to accompany me from time to time on my travels to places near and far.

Please follow my blog at and look forward to hearing from you too. Let me know if you have a travel blog I can follow too.  This blog can be translated into any language!
